Sisyphus not Syphilis, lots of people questioned our choice of name because it is easily confused with a venereal disease. To those who don’t know about King Sisyphus I recommend a quick google search but here is what it means to us. The Sisyphus story is the tale of the king who was cursed by the gods for his arrogance and made to push a rock up a hill only to complete the task and have it start over again, for eternity. The punishment is intended to be the worst kind of hell with a futility designed to frustrate and torture the king. A French philosopher Albert Camus suggested that “one must imagine Sisyphus happy.” I love this as it talks to the frustration that many have of being in the gym day in and day out and feeling like it is pointless, be happy with the purpose and put faith in the program as those repeated sessions create small improvements that accumulate and propel us toward improvement.

Her interest in CrossFit grew and she completed her L1 in 2017 and CrossFit Kids in 2018 when living in Canberra and continued coaching after the birth of her first child, showing the program is scalable to all physical abilities. With her husband’s employment moving to central Queensland, she was able to continue coaching at CrossFit CapCoast in Yeppoon where she was able to juggle being a full-time mum and coach. She and her husband have made the journey down the coast to enjoy the beach life (where she spends most of her weekends), a past enjoyment of Alanna’s from her open water swimming and surf lifesaving days.
